The discussion about the return of football in South America continues to generate great repercussions. Now, the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) says that it will maintain the idea of a schedule and a specific protocol to carry out the resumption of the sport.

According to the new rules implemented for the Copa Libertadores and South America, Conmebol says that kissing the ball, exchanging shirts with other athletes, spitting on the floor and exchangingwater bottles between players will be prohibited.

Alejandro Dominguez, Conmebol's current president explained the situation:

“These follow-up meetings with the board members allow us to have a real and updated view of the situation in each of the federations. It also provides an opportunity to align our goals, protocols and new measures to mitigate the impact of the new coronavirus on our activities”.

In addition, it has been confirmed that play-offs for the 2022 World Cup will continue in Qatar until the end of the FIFA calendar. For now, it will remain the same, without changes.

To ensure a safe return for athletes and those involved in the sport, reserve players will wear face masks, and will wear them when giving interviews after a match.

It was also noted that each person involved with the return has its own bottle of water.

The Medical Commission met with experts last week to create a document with recommendations from local regents. The document will be presented to each official government in the respective countries participating in Conmebol.

“Our main objective will always be to protect the health of South American football. For this reason, we will seek maximum coordination and consensus for the ideal implementation of these measures” - explained the president.
