It has been announced that the ESL One Cologne 2020 Counter Strike: Global Offensive Championship will be online. The tournament of the Eletronic Sports League (ESL) announced that the championship will be held in a virtual way, not including face-to-face disputes.

The announcement stating that ESL One Cologne will be online came on the morning of last Thursday, also revealing the dates of the championship that will take place between the 18th and 30th of August, guaranteeing the prize of US $ 500 thousand.

The competition will hold four regional tournaments, so there will be different values in its prizes. There will also be differences between the participating teams in each region, some will host 16 teams in the dispute, others only four teams. In this way, Europe will have a total of 16 teams in the dispute for US $ 325 thousand. North America will have 8 teams looking for the US$ 135,000. Meanwhile, Asia and Oceania will have only four teams in the US$ 20,000 race.

Participating clubs got their seats through invitations made within the ESL Pro Tour, ESL Pro Tour Challenger and ESL's own world ranking. So far most of the participating teams have been released, namely:

In Europe, the prize will be US $ 325,000 and will have a total of 16 teams in the dispute:

Astrlais, Fnatic, Natus Vincere, G2, mousesports, FaZe Clan, Vitality, Ninjas in Pajamas, BIG, Sprout, Team Herectis, Complexity, OG, Heroic, MAD Lions and a team has yet to be released.

In North America, the prize pool will be US $ 135,000 and will have eight teams in contention:

Team Liquid, 100 Thieves, Evil Geniuses, FURIA, Cloud9, Gen.G and two teams were not yet disclosed.

In Asia, the prize will be US $ 20,000 and will have four teams in the race:

TYLOO and three other teams that have not yet been announced.

In Oceania, the prize will be US $ 20,000 and will have four teams in the race:

Renegades and three other teams that were not disclosed.

It is worth remembering that ESL One Cologne is one of the main championship names within Counter Strike: Global Offensive.  The event had been planned to take place in Germany, in Cologne, with a prize of US $ 1 million, however, in the current state of things forced the event to change the prize to US $ 500 thousand.

The last edition of ESL One Cologne took place in July 2019 and featured a $ 300,000 prize pool.
