According to the report, a person was spotted at the Feroz Shah Kotla camp in Delhi, and authorities identified that he was operating on pitch-siding, a process of helping with ball-by-ball betting. In short, the pitch-siding process is used to send inside information to sports event punters.

In the case cited, the individual who was doing pitch-siding impersonated a janitor during one of the IPL games in New Delhi. Then, the individual took advantage of the time intervals to interfere in the bets.

According to Shabbir Hussain Shekhadam Khandwawala, head of the Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI), officials at the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) had spotted the man carrying out some suspicious actions. Soon after, the officers passed the information directly to the Delhi Police.

Upon being noticed, the man, who was posing as a janitor, ended up fleeing the scene, leaving cell phones behind. Thereafter, the Anti-corruption Unit put its hands on these cell phones and subsequently took them to the Delhi Police as a complaint on suspicion of passing on inside information to sports bettors.

INVESTIGATION

At the moment the police are investigating the actions of irregularities in the matches of the Indian Premier League. Delhi police have so far arrested two people who were in the camp of Feroz Shah Kotla due to accusations made by the ACU. In addition, the authorities ended up finding some fake credential cards with these two people who were arrested. The action to detain the suspects took place during the match between Rajashtan Royals and SunRisers Hyderabad, on May 2nd, for the Indian Premier League.

Shabbir Hussain commented on the incident, saying that the credentials obtained from the janitor were taken to the New Delhi police: "So on two separate days, these people managed to get access to Kotla. The one who fled came in the garb of a cleaner. However, we have all his details as he was employed for the tournament. His Aadhar Card details have been handed over to Delhi Police."
