Career in poker

After dedicating himself fully to the world of poker in 1978, McEvoy gained his first notoriety only in the 80s. First, McEvoy received his first big prize in the year 1982, participating in the World Series of Poker. At the time, Thomas participated in the $1,000 Razz event and ended up in sixth place in the event, securing an undisclosed prize pool.

However, McEvoy's greatest exploits came the following year. In 1983, Thomas returned to the WSOP and participated in the $1,000 Limit Hold'em event, where he managed to beat pro Donnacha O'Dea heads-up, earning $117k and his first bracelet ever.

Through this, the player's second bracelet followed shortly after, when the grinder participated in the 1983 WSOP Main Event. In this episode, McEvoy earned his first buy-in through a single table satellite tournament, winning US$ 540k in the $10,000 No Limit Hold'em World Championship Main Event.

So Thomas McEvoy still had a lot of gas to burn at the World Series of Poker tables, and that's what happened. In 1986, McEvoy did well in the $1,000 Razz event and overcame opponent Alma McClelland, earning $52,400 and another WSOP bracelet.

After that, six years passed and McEvoy returned to the World Series of Poker. So in 1992, Thomas K. McEvoy made it big at the $1,500 Limit Omaha table, pocketing $79,200 and his fourth World Series of Poker bracelet.

In addition to the World Series of Poker, Thomas McEvoy has also participated in many other series of events. For example, the grinder participated in the Professional Poker Tour, where he managed to beat a field of professionals, such as Toto Leonidas and Hoyt Corkins, and earn the amount of US$ 225,000, in the year 2006.

That said, in 2009, Thomas McEvoy participated in the WSOP Champions Invitational, which featured 19 former Main Event champions of the series. On that occasion, McEvoy managed to be the winner of the edition and establish himself even more in the modality of poker.

Other works

Aside from being a poker pro, McEvoy has also worked as a writer. In his work, Thomas has authored and co-authored some works on poker together with other players, such as grinders TJ Cloutier, Brad Daugherty, Don Vines, Linda Johnson, Dag Palovic and Max Stern.

Having a very strong affinity for poker, McEvoy was one of the representatives of the elite team at PokerStars during the years 2003-2011.
